Seasons

Everything comes in seasons. The seasons of life, the seasons of the year, the seasons of a career, etc. Regardless of the context, the meaning stays the same. Seasons refers to the change and transition from one stage to the next. For better or worse, this is something many of us look forward to because it signifies the chance to start again. I believe that seasons can refer to periods of time as short as a month, down to a week, and in some cases even a day. God gives us the gift of sleep with the hopes that when we wake up, we have the chance to capitalize on a new day. It’s an opportunity to make something better come from a season that might not have been our best.

Sometimes you just get that wrong phone call from a customer, an employee, a friend, or even a spouse. No matter where it came from, it’s not difficult to see how those incidents and setbacks can cast a shadow over the entire day. Suddenly, the season becomes colder, but given the opportunity to make right, the sun can shine again within a matter of hours. The passing of storm or shower may be all it takes to motivate us past our cold and damp spell into a season of warmth and readiness. Although it’s hard for us to imagine, the human understanding of time is dependent on the memories and sensations we associate it with. Sometimes we can finitely organize our seasons down to periods of hours.

What amazes me most is our ability to hope. Each person is capable of different kinds and levels of hope. However badly you are crushed, there is something positive that can come from the idyllic process of change and newness. The human heart’s preparedness to accept this with a fresh mind and perspective can be all it takes to bring you to the forefront of a new season. No matter where you are in your life, a new spring can be waiting for you at any turn.
